  • A local construction company owner said his business suffered after ICE agents arrested nearly 200 individuals in an immigration crackdown across the Southeast. He said he sometimes uses subcontractors who may include undocumented workers—he is asking the federal government to create a plan that protects both workers and small businesses.  FOX 17
  • United Communications has launched broadband labels that clearly list download/upload speeds, monthly price, and extra fees to help local customers compare high-speed fiber plans—this change replaces confusing terms with a consistent breakdown of service details. CRIME NEWS

  • A juvenile driver was arrested after a police chase in La Vergne on Friday evening—residents called police after spotting his vehicle in a Lake Forest subdivision—and he now faces charges of felony evading, reckless endangerment and kidnapping.  FOX 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 43rd International Folkfest will fill Rutherford County with music and dance from June 7th to June 14th, featuring groups from Poland, Puerto Rico, Estonia, and the USA performing in Murfreesboro. Mikolaj Rychlik from the Polish Embassy will visit the festival (and attend planned events organized by local founders).  WGNS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 13, over 320 local middle and high school girls attended MTSU's second annual Ladies in Concrete Workshop to learn about concrete careers. The event featured eight hands-on stations—heavy equipment, mix design, 3D printing, welding and more—and was led by 17 alumni and industry partners to give them real-world experience.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Deputy Director Ram Balachandran of the Murfreesboro Transportation Department says multiple road projects are affecting traffic today through May 24—lane closures and shifts will occur on routes such as Joe B Jackson Pkwy, Manson Pike, Rutherford Blvd, and others. Drivers should plan for delays as contractors install utilities, improve intersections, and conduct paving and resurfacing across the city.  WGNS

SPORTS NEWS

  • The TSSAA tennis state tournament will begin May 20 at the Adams Tennis Complex on 925 Golf Lane in Murfreesboro. Team championships will be held May 21 — singles and doubles matches will follow on May 23.  The Daily News Journal
  • Rhythm Volleyball Academy held its ribbon cutting on March 26 at its new 20,000 square foot facility at 2139 Logistics Wy in Murfreesboro — the academy trains athletes ages 5 to 18 in a comprehensive volleyball program — laying the groundwork for local youth to develop their skills.  Rutherford County Source
  • Blackman beat Cleveland by a score of 9 to 1 on Saturday — clinching a berth in the TSSAA state baseball tournament.  The Daily News Journal
  • Spring Fling 32 returns this week as TSSAA hosts a four-day state high school championship that will bring over 43,000 fans to local baseball and softball games; local teams will open play Tuesday with WGNS broadcasting live — game times will update as results come in.  WGNS
