COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Animal Rescue Corps rescued 133 chihuahuas, 1 large dog, and 12 cats from an overcrowded property in Rutherford County (rescues occurred on May 9 and May 14) after elderly owners were relocated, and the nonprofit provided veterinary care to all the animals.  FOX 17
  • Dr. John Ash stepped down as principal at Central Magnet after nearly 17 years, and Dr. Clark Blair will assume leadership in June. A Memorial Day weekend flag display will honor veterans at Healing Fields while Eagleville Athletics starts turf upgrades, and local gas prices held near $4.08 per gallon.  WGNS

  • The Alley on Main owners plan to open a new restaurant & two wedding venues with Stones River views off Medical Center Parkway, adding more local dining and event choices for the community.  The Daily News Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 19, 2026, Eagleville sophomore Lawson Latta made school history by becoming the first Rutherford County student chosen for the TSSAA Student Advisory Committee for the school year 2026 to 2027 + he will help shape local high school sports policies.  The Daily News Journal
  • MTSU and Middle Tennessee Electric signed a memorandum of understanding Tuesday, May 19 at the Miller Education Center to boost quantum research and workforce programs in Murfreesboro. The partners will share resources to create a quantum testbed — a step that could spur regional job growth.  NewsChannel 5
  • Yesterday, Discovery School third graders partnered with Murfreesboro Transit to install Little Free Libraries at the Transit Center and at bus shelters (Memorial and Innsbrooke Boulevards). The project, stemming from a classroom Project-Based Learning experience, expanded book access for residents.  NewsChannel 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Murfreesboro City offices will be closed on Memorial Day, May 25, with transit and waste collection services rescheduled; Adams Tennis Complex, Fort Golf Course and select parks remain open. Meanwhile, Boro Beach opens on May 23 and hosts a Memorial Day Bash (10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.) on May 25.  City of Murfreesboro
