- ➤ Main Street Murfreesboro will host the Summer Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest on June 14 at Public Square, where artists of all ages must bring their own washable chalk and follow pre-assigned drawing areas. Drawing will begin after 7:30 a.m. and finish by 11:00 a.m.—judging is scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with winners receiving local gift cards. Murfreesboro.com

- ➤ Neighbors Murfreesboro will open its new restaurant and bar in June on Medical Center Pkwy, offering a modern rustic design with indoor/outdoor seating. A video walkthrough shows a large bar, TVs for game days and hints of an evolving menu — more details will be announced soon. Murfreesboro.com
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ TCAP reading scores released on May 20 set off a fast-moving timeline under Tennessee’s state reading law for thousands of third graders. Students scoring at or below proficiency must choose to retest between May 21 and May 30, enroll in summer school, or use free tutoring to advance — nearly 7,500 fourth graders in tutoring must also meet growth benchmarks with retention decisions expected in July. - ➤ Middle Tennessee State University will host its 16th Annual Alumni Summer College from June 25th to 27th, where alumni can enjoy campus tours and creative workshops under the theme 'Masterpiece in the Making: Creativity Beyond the Canvas.' - ➤ City Hall and most city offices, along with Murfreesboro Transit and local community centers, will be closed on Memorial Day, May 26. - ➤ Rutherford County added nearly 12,000 new residents between May 2024 and May 2025 and saw a projected $8M increase in tax revenue even as housing builds lag behind demand. The county stays more affordable than most in Middle Tennessee with a median home price around $420,000—$52,900 less than in Davidson County, requiring an estimated household income of $120,800.
