  • This Memorial Day Weekend the community can enjoy many events such as a Renaissance Festival in Arrington, a community day at the Ryman Auditorium, waterpark fun at Nashville Shores, and rooftop pickleball at the Bobby Hotel, all scheduled from Friday through Monday. Residents can also attend ceremonies and memorial events—like the flag ceremony at Stones River National Cemetery in Murfreesboro and a service in Franklin—to honor veterans and welcome summer.  Rutherford County Source

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Yelp released its list of the top 25 burger chains in the U.S. and said many favorites have locations in Tennessee, including Culver's with nine spots in Murfreesboro, Shake Shack near Nashville, and Freddy's with 19 outlets statewide. The listing, which highlights chains offering classic cheeseburgers and gourmet stacks—just in time for National Burger Day on May 28—shows a mix of national brands available across the state.  The Daily News Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Data from the Tennessee Department of Labor shows Rutherford County’s unemployment rate fell to 2.3% in April—down 0.3 points from March—and cities like Murfreesboro and LaVergne dropped from 2.8% to 2.4% while Smyrna also recorded a decrease to 2.4%. Ninety-four of 95 counties in the state reported lower jobless numbers, with only Unicoi County experiencing an increase.  WGNS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Three years ago, Tennessee Valley Robotics partnered with Murfreesboro City Schools to supply robots to seven schools for VEX competitions—this after-school program now includes 12 schools with 100 to 150 students, and four teams have already qualified for state competitions.  Murfreesboro Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Boy and Girl Scouts clubs of Tennessee teamed up with local youth fishing clubs to launch a cleanup program that rewards volunteers with a Trashsquatch patch for collecting litter — the patches are awarded by regional councils overseeing the effort. The initiative addresses growing trash problems at urban lakes, state parks and recreation areas, aiming to protect wildlife and public safety.  Murfreesboro Post

  • Bailey Goad led Donelson Christian Academy to its first TSSAA Division II-A softball state championship on May 22 at Middle Tennessee State when her RBI double in the seventh gave the team a four to three win over Silverdale—she pitched 21 innings over two days while playing through a shin injury and is set to see a doctor today.  The Daily News Journal
  • Grace Christian won the TSSAA DII-AA soccer state title when Vitor Robazza, Pedro Ungarello, and Felipe Evans scored in a 3—0 win over Webb — Bell Buckle.  The Daily News Journal
