A celebration will be held to honor Jody Powers' retirement as the founder of Liberty's Station and Amelia's Closet on Tuesday, June 2 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Liberty's Station on 850 NW Broad St in Murfreesboro during a come-and-go event.

Although government offices, banks and post offices will be closed on Memorial Day today, numerous retailers (including Kroger, Walmart and Target) remain open with varying hours; shoppers should verify local schedules before visiting.

On May 19, Discovery School third graders and Murfreesboro Transit installed Little Free Libraries at the Transit Center (at 324 New Salem Hwy) and bus shelters on Memorial and Innsbrooke Boulevards to improve book access in the community.

The project began as a class effort to connect people to needed resources.

Residents can vote for the Murfreesboro area TSSAA girls athlete of the week for May 18-23 by choosing from nominees including Olivia Clark, Ellie Nguyen, Abby Olsen, Riley Williams, Toju Williams, Destiny McCoy and Lexi Pope; the poll closes at 2 p.m. on May 28.

The Murfreesboro area TSSAA boys athlete of the week poll for May 18—23 is open, with nominees including Emory Harris, Chukwudi Obi, Drake Rzemieniewski, Jacques Baker, Gavin Johnson, Michel Mambwe, David Collins and David Scobey.

Vote before the poll closes at 2 p.m. on May 28.
