CULTURE NEWS

  • Stones River National Battlefield welcomed hundreds of visitors on Memorial Day, May 25, with guided walks at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. Staff were on site from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and visitors parked at the visitor center using the Old National Highway crosswalk.  FOX 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Director Jimmy Sullivan announced that longtime educator Andy Roach (with 16 years at McFadden) has been named the new principal of McFadden School of Excellence today; he will assume his role on June 1 to continue the school's award-winning legacy in Murfreesboro.  Rutherford County Source
  • Middle Tennessee State University renewed its partnership with the Middle Tennessee Council of Scouting America during a campus ceremony today, continuing a program that offers university events & merit badge classes for local youth.  Murfreesboro.com
  • More than 250 middle and high school students visited MTSU recently for the Concrete Experience event (hosted by the Concrete Industry Management program) to learn about welding, masonry, heavy equipment and power tools. Students rotated through hands-on stations (including concrete demos) where professionals guided them on possible career paths.  Murfreesboro.com
  • MTSU Art and Design students earned 10 honors at the Nashville American Advertising Awards, including five Gold ADDYs, a Silver ADDY, and the Rising Star award (featuring a $500 scholarship).   • Murfreesboro City Council backed the Stones Battle Parkway corridor plan yesterday to improve east-west travel and support future growth as rising home prices heighten housing affordability concerns (local residents have begun discussing the plan's impact).  WGNS

  • The Siegel Middle School Lady Cavaliers won the TMSAA Class AA State Championship with an 11-1 victory over Munford at Frost Stadium (capping a perfect 30-0 season) and returned the state trophy to Murfreesboro.  WGNS
