On Tuesday, May 26, an engineer at Murfreesboro Fire Department rescued a kitten trapped in a vehicle plus officials report the kitten is healthy.
🎓 Education
Rockvale Elementary principal Dayna Nichols is retiring after 31 years with Rutherford County Schools.
She led the school for 12 years and is succeeded by Jason Crutchfield — Nichols plans to remain active in the community.
Three Tennessee students are competing at the Scripps National Spelling Bee this week in Washington D.C., including 8th grader Marian Jenkins — who qualified by placing second at the Tennessee Titans Regional Spelling Bee.
It is the first time in 15 years that the Bee is held in the capital.

Middle Tennessee State University’s Center for Health and Human Services secured a $225,000 state grant from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development through the Rural Works: Healthcare Initiative in Murfreesboro — boosting rural healthcare access and training opportunities for students while developing a new Workforce Certificate.
Seven Rutherford County restaurants received health inspection scores below 80 in April.
Rock-N-Roll Sushi in Murfreesboro scored 79 on April 1 before a follow-up raised its score to 99 (corrective measures implemented) while restaurants in Smyrna and La Vergne were cited for issues including live insects and improper food handling.

The Tennessee Titans will host seven coed youth football camps for kids (ages 7 to 14) this summer, including one at Oakland High School in Murfreesboro on June 9.

Senior Faith Nyathi is set to compete in the first round of the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Regionals at Middle Tennessee State University Athletics in Lexington.

Riverdale baseball coach Barry Messer retired on May 26 after 19 seasons in which his team won 477 games and made five state tournament appearances.
