  • Jasmine Nicole Vega-Yates, 18, has been reported missing from the Clarion Inn after her sister said she has not been heard from since May 19—a police report notes that her brother said she did not share her location over social media, she is 5'6 and 200 lbs, and she is now in the National Crime Information Center.  FOX 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Middle Tennessee State University’s Board of Trustees will consider a proposal to raise undergraduate in-state tuition & fees on June 17. The proposal is open for public comment from May 23 until June 10 at 4:30 p.m. CDT as required by state law.  Rutherford County Source
  • On May 6, the YMCA of Middle Tennessee honored high school seniors and program alumni at the Achievers Scholarship Celebration held at the Joe C. Davis YMCA Outdoor Center. More than 150 people attended the event, which featured Nissan as the top corporate supporter—along with sponsors Clark Construction and Bass, Berry, Sims PLC—to help secure scholarships for students.  Rutherford County Source
  • MTSU’s Board of Trustees approved a procedure that may allow naming the new Student-Athlete Performance Center at Floyd Stadium this fall after reviewing a request from former Gov. Bill Haslam and former U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon to honor Chairman Stephen B. Smith and his wife, Denise. The board unanimously removed the current naming from the MTSU Baseball clubhouse — a university policy requirement as an individual cannot have more than one building named in their honor.  WGNS

  • TriStar StoneCrest Medical Center announced today that it will apply for a Certificate of Need to build a $19 million freestanding emergency room in Murfreesboro's Barfield community—designed to support growing demand for quality emergency care in southern Rutherford County.   • Middle Tennessee’s women’s golf team signed local transfer Isabella Johnson to its 2025-26 roster, as announced Tuesday afternoon. The sophomore transferred from the University of Tennessee and was named the 2024 Tennessee Golf Association Girls’ Junior Player of the Year, a win that highlights her strong junior career in Murfreesboro.  Murfreesboro Post
