  • Bridgestone said its La Vergne tire plant in Rutherford County will close on July 31, costing 658 jobs—this WARN notice confirms the move as part of a business optimization plan with further corporate layoffs possible.  The Daily News Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • On Tuesday, TBI agents arrested assistant district attorney Quinn Rodriguez in Rutherford County after investigating allegations he assaulted a woman multiple times—he faces two counts of domestic assault and two counts of aggravated assault and was booked on a $10,000 bond.  Rutherford County Source
  • A Murfreesboro man convicted of child rape and aggravated sexual battery, 63-year-old Andre Lenoir, was sentenced to 52 years in prison by Judge Barry Tidwell—his sentence came after a trial where the victim’s mother testified about the abuse her daughter endured.  The Daily News Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Great Tennessee Airshow will take place in Smyrna this weekend from Saturday, June 7th through Sunday, June 8th—organizers say the event will feature the U.S. Navy Blue Angels and use only online ticket sales with vendors accepting credit and debit cards.  NewsChannel 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr responded to a Comptroller memo from June 2 that reported an 11.3% error rate in property assessments, more than twice the allowed limit. The state will take over the Property Assessor’s Office immediately — Carr said his office is cooperating with state officials after whistleblowers raised concerns in 2023.  WGNS

SPORTS NEWS

  • Friendship Christian School senior Braden Gillespie, who won the tournament last year, is competing at McCabe Golf Course in the ongoing Schooldays Tournament running from June 4 to 6. Gillespie said his game improved after switching coaches and he now has a chance to become the first repeat champion since Kevin Lee—an achievement not seen since 2012 and 2013.  The Daily News Journal
