- ➤ A pet zebra named Ed was finally caught in a field in Christiana after it ran away from home on May 31—law enforcement used a tranquilizer dart and helicopter to capture the animal. Officials from the sheriff’s office, state patrol and wildlife agencies tracked Ed after it caused traffic problems on a Murfreesboro parkway. The Daily News Journal
- ➤ Friday Night Live returns to historic downtown Murfreesboro on Friday, June 13 with Lisa Law and the Suspects performing at the Rutherford County Courthouse from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The free event features food trucks and free parking—attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs as the surrounding streets are closed for safety. - ➤ Middle Tennessee State University signed an agreement with the Bahamas to offer new aviation training programs—including summer immersions, fast-track courses, and online classes—that build strong academic ties. Alumnus Patrick Eaton donated a 400-panel LED screen to the film and television program to give students hands-on experience with real-world production skills. The Daily News Journal

- ➤ Murfreesboro will see several construction projects from June 8 to June 14—covering road, utility and Google Fiber work—with lane closures, shifts and detours in place as city and state crews execute the planned improvements. Rutherford County Source
- ➤ The TSA clarified that a Costco card is not acceptable for boarding flights or entering federal facilities; travelers must use a REAL ID, valid passport, or another federally issued photo ID. Tennesseans can still obtain a REAL ID at local offices—walk-in applicants may face long wait times. The Daily News Journal
- ➤ Murfreesboro native Airman Hayden Gochcoff trains at the Aviation Rescue Swimmer School in Pensacola — he works to become a certified rescue swimmer who saves lives. The 2024 Blackman High School graduate says his hometown taught him respect and hard work. WGNS

- ➤ Middle Tennessee State University completed a new synthetic turf installation at Floyd Stadium this month ahead of the upcoming football season, replacing the surface that had been used since 2014. The new field uses Shaw Sports Turf's state-of-the-art Game On system which is designed to improve player safety and performance and will be debuted by the Blue Raiders at their home opener later this year.
