🏘️ Community
Nancy Woodall opened her heart and home to more than 400 foster children — including many with special needs — and died on June 8 in Murfreesboro at age 71.
Memorial services are planned for June 14 with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by the funeral at Woodfin Memorial Chapel on Lascassas Pike.
Greenhouse Ministries opened Spring House on South Spring Street to offer food and clothing help to neighbors while volunteer personal shoppers assist in a remodeled space—located next to the Garden Patch Thrift Shop.
The ministry also celebrated a Life University graduation and has three openings for men seeking help—encouraging community engagement.
🎓 Education
Rutherford County Schools reminds drivers to slow down in school zones as Summer Learning Camp is underway for kindergarten to rising 5th grade students at local elementary schools from June 4 to June 27 at 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.—excluding Juneteenth on June 19.
School crossing officers from the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office are stationed at each site and require drivers to reduce speed to 15 mph when crossing lights flash.
MTSU will host two free events for local residents.
Garden Extravaganza will take place in Murfreesboro on June 14 from 9 a.m. to noon at Lane Agri-Park—featuring garden tours and talks including one at 10:30 a.m. by biology professor Kim Cleary Sadler—while Boat Day will be held in Smyrna on June 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., offering kayaking, canoeing, and stormwater education.
MTSU is reviewing its programs to meet a new law that bans DEI efforts — the university may cut DEI programs, adjust scholarships, and possibly lay off some workers.
It has not shared final details and will update the community soon.

Manchester police work with sheriffs, state troopers and federal officers as Bonnaroo turns the small town into a busy hub for nearly 80,000 festivalgoers on 700 acres; officers keep working to secure the event and warn people to lock up valuables and avoid illegal drugs.
The festival is held from Tuesday through Sunday at Great Stage Park in Coffee County.
