  • Rustic Rebel opened off City Square in the old Quinn’s Mercantile at 301 North Spring Street and offers Western clothing, jewelry, dog treats and gifts in a trendy country style. Owner Kayla Bissinger said the shop is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m. (it is her third location after two in Georgia).  Rutherford County Source

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Rutherford County Schools Board of Education voted on June 12 to buy nearly 4,000 laptops and 119 charging stations for summer camps for $1.71 million, and it also approved about $5.8 million in new laptops for high schools. They also approved new staff roles and projects—like a charter specialist, a third bookkeeper, a bus conduct coordinator, a nutrition assistant, a gaga ball pit at Eagleville, an ROTC course at Rockvale High, and a mural at Daniel McKee—to support school needs.  Murfreesboro Post
  • Discovery School earned national recognition after being named a 2024-2025 K-12 Tree Campus by the Arbor Day Foundation using its commitment to tree education and hands-on environmental experiences. It became the first elementary school in Middle Tennessee to receive this accolade and partnered with the city and MoreTreesBoro to enhance sustainability.  Murfreesboro.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TDOT announced that since Friday, June 13 at 8 p.m. crews have closed both eastbound and westbound I-24 ramps at Exit 74A to I-840 westbound for concrete repairs delayed by weather. Westbound drivers should detour via Exit 70 while eastbound drivers use Exit 74B—all work will finish Monday, June 16 at 5 a.m.  Rutherford County Source
  • Rutherford County received a AAA bond rating from Fitch Ratings — a top mark that shows strong money management and careful planning. This rating, which makes the county only the second in Tennessee to hold multiple AAA ratings, will lower future borrowing costs and help save taxpayer money.  Rutherford County Source

HEALTH NEWS

  • Recent CDC data shows that 33.2% of adults 65 and older in Tennessee have fallen each year while the fall death rate is 85.9 per 100,000—local experts advise bone density scans, vision tests and home safety modifications to reduce risks.  WGNS

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Kingdom Development Group plans a major project in downtown Murfreesboro on property owned by Richard Sandoval; the development will include a seven-story structure on the former Bank of America site and additional work on a vacant lot next to Shacklett’s Photography. The project is set one block from the 16-story NHC Tower and will offer 45,000 square feet of office space, a hotel, an event venue and penthouse living with 400 parking spots—75 for city use.  WGNS
