- ➤ A 48-year-old man named Ronnie Malone was kicked out of MJ's Pool Hall on NW Broad Street early Sunday but returned armed and fired several shots—hitting a patron in the leg and shattering a glass door—before being arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and other counts while the victim was treated and released. - ➤ On June 14, residents and visitors enjoyed an evening of music, food, and family fun in the Depot District organized by Carpe Artista—marking the farewell performance of cultural ambassadors from Estonia, Poland, and Puerto Rico. Local Cripple Creek Cloggers, whose roots began with a 4-H project at Kittrell School, performed traditional dance and music—visiting schools, libraries, and civic organizations to share their art. - ➤ About 50 MTSU media students worked at the Bonnaroo festival on Friday, filming shows for Hulu and mixing sound before the event was canceled due to heavy rain and flooding — the storm forced an early end to the festival. The students used new robotic camera operators and hands-on techniques that helped some secure future job offers — their work provided vital real-world learning in media production. - ➤ City Hall and most municipal offices will be closed on Thursday, June 19 in observance of Juneteenth—Murfreesboro Transit will not run and garbage pickup will move to Friday, while several recreational facilities and centers will also be closed; services resume on Friday. - ➤ Officials in Murfreesboro are starting condemnation proceedings to regain control of a 2.5-acre downtown site sold in 2018 for $1.8 million after halted construction at the former First Methodist Church left plans unfinished. City Council revoked TIF incentives in 2024 and the mayor is considering a city-county partnership for government offices and parking while other proposals aim to reshape downtown. WGNS
