Murfreesboro Fire‑Rescue is hosting its annual Teen Fire Academy at the Doug Young Public Safety Training Facility from June 15 to 18.
Local teens—aged 13 to 17—learn fire safety, live fire demonstrations and teamwork in interactive sessions.
Three local high school students from Rutherford County will compete in the 2026 Great Race—a vintage automobile rally along historic Route 66—from Springfield to Pasadena, starting June 20.
They will learn teamwork and skills in navigation and automotive history during the nine-day event hosted by the Stones River Car Club.

The TWRA reported a near-record spring turkey harvest in Tennessee with 34,990 turkeys taken by 28,266 hunters, marking a 13 percent increase over the five-year average.
Favorable weather and good hatches boosted the numbers.
On June 14, a rare green meteor streaked across the night sky over Tennessee and 14 other states, leaving a blue-green trail that nearly 400 witnesses reported.
The American Meteor Society confirmed the event as a super bolide.
