  • Murfreesboro Parks and Recreation will host its annual Juneteenth celebration at Bradley Academy Museum and Cultural Center on Saturday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. South Academy Street will fill with more than 75 vendors — live music, food trucks and cultural activities for a day of community unity.  WGNS
  • United Way of South Central Tennessee is accepting applications for its Catalyst Program for 2025 to 2026, a nine-session series that will train emerging volunteer leaders in nonprofit work, covering areas like governance, fundraising, advocacy and financial accountability + requiring a volunteer project and a $150 fee. Applicants must attend an introductory session on September 19 from 8 to 10 a.m. and at least five sessions to gain hands-on experience in nonprofit leadership.  Murfreesboro.com

CRIME NEWS

  • The trial for two men—Maceo Boyd and Montavus Guy Jr.—charged in the 2020 murder of 20-year-old Montavis 'Monty' Jones will begin July 14th in Rutherford County Circuit Court as jury selection and opening arguments start.  WGNS
  • Michael Jason Wassner, a 43-year-old from Murfreesboro, left Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital at Westlawn on Saturday, June 14 without being officially released (he was last seen wearing a peach-colored shirt and blue jeans) and is now listed as a missing adult in the National Crime Information Center.  Rutherford County Source
  • A man was arrested after allegedly firing shots at MJ’s Pool Hall on NW Broad Street and striking a patron in the leg shortly before 1 a.m. on June 15—Ronnie Malone, 48, fled the scene and now faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and employing a firearm during a dangerous felony while the injured patron was treated and released.  Rutherford County Source

  • Murfreesboro city will conduct construction from June 15 through June 21 that will close lanes and shift traffic on roads including Joe B Jackson Parkway, Manson Pike and several other major routes as contractors perform ramp, intersection and utility work—drivers should follow posted detours and traffic controls.  Rutherford County Source
