  • Rutherford County's Tennessee Brotherhood Ride passed through Murfreesboro on Sunday, June 22 to honor Detective Jacob Beu who died in a motorcycle crash on May 7. • Rutherford County PAWS named a one-year, three-month-old Pit Bull mix, Margo, as its June Pet of the Month; she weighs about 50 pounds and is described as affectionate and playful plus she has been at the shelter since March 10 and is adoption-ready today. Adoptions must be completed in person at 285 John R. Rice Boulevard on a first-come, first-served basis.  WGNS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bonnaroo 2025 was cancelled in Manchester due to severe weather after safety concerns forced an early shutdown and organizers issued full automatic refunds for tickets plus all fees, including parking and camping. Organizers have not set new dates, leaving the festival’s future uncertain after its third cancellation in six years.  WGNS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A Murfreesboro Powerball player won $2 million by matching five of six numbers with the Power Play option on a ticket sold June 21 at Super 9 Station Turney & this is the fifth lottery win of $1 million or more in Tennessee this month with additional wins reported in Spring Hill, Knoxville and Nashville.  FOX 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • From June 3rd to 6th, MTSU hosted a four-day forensic science camp where 35 high school students learned techniques by investigating a mock crime scene and following strict protocols with local law enforcement—keeping evidence intact. Earlier this spring, over 200 people attended the Mech-Tech expo where engineering and mechatronics students presented capstone projects that set the stage for future programs in the new Applied Engineering Building.  The Daily News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On June 12, Rutherford County Commissioners approved a $1 million funding pledge for the Child Advocacy Center of Rutherford and Cannon Counties to support a planned 10,000-square-foot facility that will better serve child abuse victims. The center has helped 21,000 children so far — the funding is part of a $7 million campaign to expand its services.  The Daily News Journal
  • Beginning July 1, the new state law will impose a 48-hour jail sentence and a $500 fine on anyone who sells hemp-derived cannabinoid products to individuals under 21—this step comes amid educators’ concerns that kids mistake these products for candy. The law targets the seller rather than the store owner, and local retailers in Rutherford County will update employee training while law enforcement plans new sting operations.  WGNS
