- ➤ On Sunday, Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department responded to reports of cries near Stones River National Battlefield and rescued a baby deer that had fallen into a storm drain at a hotel parking lot. - ➤ Luanne R. James has been chosen as the new Library Director for the Rutherford County Library System and will start on July 28—she brings over 25 years of library work and will help modernize six branches and improve digital access across the community. WGNS

- ➤ Early Sunday, Murfreesboro firefighters rescued a white-spotted fawn trapped in a storm drain near the Stones River National Battlefield. The team examined the animal for minor scrapes and released it into nearby woods—hoping its mother would soon return. WGNS
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On June 23, the Rutherford County Commission approved pay raises that give all government employees at least a 2% increase and public safety workers up to 9.75%—a combination of a 6% boost and a 1.75% step increase; the nearly $958.5 million budget funds county services and public education for the fiscal year starting in July without a property tax hike. - ➤ City offices (including City Hall, St. Clair Street Senior Center, and the Solid Waste Department) will be closed on Friday, July 4 while Murfreesboro Transit will not run and regular business hours will resume on Monday, July 7.
