  • Stones River Amateur Radio Club launched ARRL Field Day 2025 on Saturday at pavilions 3 and 4 in Barfield Crescent Park on 697 Veterans Parkway and will keep the event live until 1:00 PM today. The free event offers live demonstrations on HF, VHF, UHF, and satellite communications and gives both experienced hams and first-timers a hands-on chance to learn about radio — which is vital during emergencies.  WGNS

  • Murfreesboro firefighters evacuated guests from the Regal Inn on S. Church Street on Friday night after a fire broke out in a room under renovation—damage was limited to two units and no injuries were reported.  NewsChannel 5
  • A fire broke out at the Regal Inn on S. Church Street in Murfreesboro on Friday night and firefighters evacuated the building at about 11 p.m.—the incident damaged two units and no injuries were reported while the fire marshal's office investigates the cause.  FOX 17
  • NewsRadio WGNS warns that during the 100 Deadliest Days of Summer crashes, especially those involving teen drivers, have risen by 26% and alarm bells are ringing as the 4th of July nears—local law enforcement is setting up DUI checkpoints and extra patrols to keep roads safe. Drivers are urged to buckle up and avoid distractions to help prevent fatal crashes.  WGNS

  • Three men in Murfreesboro reportedly attempted to steal 72 cans of beer from Walmart on South Church Street by hiding cases in storage totes — but they paid for the items and willingly followed a loss prevention officer when stopped.  WGNS

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Center for Historic Preservation at Middle Tennessee State University earned an Award of Excellence for its exhibit 'Two Families, Two Revolutions'—which shows the stories of two Tennessee families and their role in local history. The exhibit is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 225 W. College Street and will remain on display until the nation’s 250th birthday celebration.  WGNS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development reported that Rutherford County’s unemployment rate held at 2.7% in May, tying with Sevier, Cheatham, and Wilson counties. Williamson County posted a slightly lower rate at 2.6%—demonstrating a strong local labor market.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ram Balachandran from Murfreesboro Transportation created a computer model that gives a road report from today through July 5 to keep travel safe. The report says lane closures + detours will happen on roads like Joe B Jackson Pkwy, Manson Pike, MLK Blvd, and Patriot Dr with planned work times and proper traffic controls in place.  WGNS

  • Murfreesboro native David Price is set to be inducted into the College Baseball Hall of Fame as one of 21 college baseball standouts in the 2025 class—he led Vanderbilt to SEC titles and was the first overall MLB Draft pick in 2007.  Rutherford County Source
