  • Today, Puckett’s Restaurant will launch Puckett’s Love: Feed the Community to provide nearly 4,000 free meals for children at local nonprofits in cities including Murfreesboro—this program will offer breakfast and lunch during June and July to help fight summer food insecurity. The family-owned restaurant will donate meals valued at nearly $40,000 through its partnerships with Boys & Girls Clubs and local parks programs.  Murfreesboro.com

CRIME NEWS

  • A 28-year-old probation violator, Katlyn Gayle Wray, led a low-speed chase in a stolen black Nissan Altima early Tuesday as officers deployed spike strips and blocked her escape - she struck two patrol cars before being stopped on I-24 around 7:30 a.m. and now faces multiple new charges while held on a $107,000 bond.  WGNS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rutherford County hosted an event in Smyrna on July 3 at Lee Victory Recreation Park that featured food trucks, live music by the Texas Twisters, and a pyrotechnic show in the dark. Today, Rockvale holds its 98th picnic starting at 10:00 a.m., La Vergne hosts a family picnic at 5:30 p.m., and Murfreesboro presents Celebration Under the Stars at the Fountains at Gateway starting at 4:30 p.m.—the Murfreesboro event also offers DJ music at 7:30 p.m. and a fireworks display at 9:00 p.m.  WGNS

  • Murfreesboro CityTV’s manager Michael Nevills received the STARS award on June 26 for his downtown revitalization documentary celebrating 40 years of change—Councilmember Shawn Wright honored him at the City Council meeting for his outstanding service since 1996.  The Daily News Journal

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • UT horticulture extension agent Lucas Holman said blackberry plants are a smart choice for rookie gardeners in Murfreesboro—these plants need full sun, well-drained soil, and 3-4 feet spacing to allow canes to run properly. He added that most varieties bear fruit on second-year canes while new canes planted today will yield fruit in 2026—thornless types also make tying and harvesting easier.  Murfreesboro Post

SPORTS NEWS

  • MTSU Athletics announced that state-of-the-art synthetic turf has been installed at Floyd Stadium ahead of the 2025 season—its field now shows the MMC logo as part of an expanded local partnership. Warner Athletic installed the new Shaw Sports Turf system designed for player safety and environmental benefits, and the upgrade is expected to boost the fan experience during games.  Rutherford County Source
