COMMUNITY NEWS

  • UT-TSU Extension staff at the Rutherford County Agricultural Extension Service helps Murfreesboro residents grow sunflowers and other native plants suited for local soils at Lane Agri-Park (315 John R. Rice Blvd.). They advise planting from May through October and offer tips at Tuesday and Friday Farmers Markets (7:00 AM to 1:00 PM) as well as on WGNS radio.  WGNS
  • Puckett’s Restaurant is hosting Puckett’s Love: Feed the Community to serve nearly 4,000 free meals to children this summer through partnerships with Boys and Girls Clubs and local parks and recreation programs in Murfreesboro, Nashville, and Cullman, Ala. The program offers breakfast or lunch during June and July to help fight summer food insecurity.  Rutherford County Source

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 24-year-old motorcyclist named Blake Raucci of Murfreesboro was killed in a crash at the intersection of N. Rutherford Blvd + Greenland Drive on April 10 when a Ford Fusion failed to yield on a green light, and FACT investigators are looking into the incident.  City of Murfreesboro

CRIME NEWS

  • Designer sunglasses stolen from the Murfreesboro Sunglass Hut and two South Carolina stores were recovered in Miami when law enforcement executed a Feb. 6 search warrant based on Detective Aaron Gonzalez’s tip (the items were valued at $890,000), while three Miami men arrested on Jan. 29 remain in custody on $1 million bonds and face charges including burglary and theft with a hearing set for Feb. 13.  City of Murfreesboro

  • Governor Bill Lee proclaimed July as Beef Month in Tennessee to honor Rutherford County beef producers and their role in the state's food supply + economy. Local farms like Shady Branch Beef, Butler Farms, Southland Beef, and SAM Farms sell quality beef directly at farmers markets and on-site stores.  WGNS
