  • On Tuesday, August 12 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Wawa will hold a ceremony at 5109 Veterans Pkwy as it starts building a new convenience store and gas station in Murfreesboro. The company is growing in Middle Tennessee and has not given details on when construction will finish or when it will open—residents can share their favorite Wawa memories to get a chance to be a VIP at the event.  Rutherford County Source
  • Insomnia Cookies opened its first Murfreesboro location at 225 North Rutherford Boulevard—offering warm gourmet cookies and ice cream with extended pickup and delivery hours. CULTURE NEWS

  • Main Street Murfreesboro will host Friday Night Live on July 11 with performances by Sisters Wade Revival and the HipWaders on the public square in front of the Rutherford County Courthouse from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Streets will be closed to ensure safety, free parking will be available and food trucks as well as restaurants will serve concertgoers — the free event is part of a summer series presented by Wilson Bank and Trust.  Murfreesboro.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nearly 300 high school students participated in the recently concluded Tennessee Governor’s School for the Arts at MTSU, where they took intensive classes in dance, music, visual arts, filmmaking and theatre that offered college credit. The three-week program gave students a rare chance to work in art forms not offered at all schools — experiences that may guide their future choices.  The Daily News Journal

  • On Saturday, Hany Mukhtar scored a penalty kick in the 101st minute to give Nashville SC a 1-0 win over Philadelphia Union while the team played with 10 men.
