  • Blackman Community Church of the Nazarene invites the public to a free worship night on July 20 at the Lane-Agri Park Center at 315 John R. Rice Blvd in Murfreesboro. The event starts at 6:00 p.m. with food, games and outdoor seating on the lawn—if it rains the gathering will move indoors—and worship begins around 7:15 p.m.  Murfreesboro.com

  • Wawa will break ground in Murfreesboro on Tuesday, Aug.12 at 5109 Veterans Pkwy for its first Tennessee store and will begin a similar project in Clarksville on Wednesday, Aug.13 at 756 Ringgold Rd—both moves mark the chain's expansion to serve the greater Nashville market.  FOX 17
  • United Communications announced today that it has connected its 40,000th broadband customer, Susan Hall of Smyrna, who moved here for fast and reliable internet. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Applications are now open for the Fall 2025 Citizens Police Academy hosted by the Murfreesboro Police Department, inviting residents from Murfreesboro and Rutherford County to learn more about local law enforcement. The program will run from August 19 to November 11 with Tuesday evening sessions from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at MPD headquarters on North Highland Avenue.  Rutherford County Source

  • MTSU women's basketball coach Rick Insell was named to the Conference USA Hall of Fame 2025 class today—marking his ninth career hall of fame honor and making him the third MTSU representative alongside Kevin Byard and Dean Hayes.  The Daily News Journal
  • Nick Perbix signed a two-year, $5.5 million deal with the Nashville Predators after three seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning—he signed on July 1. He was introduced by general manager Barry Trotz on July 8 at Bridgestone Arena and is expected to share heavy penalty-killing minutes with teammate Justin Barron.  The Daily News Journal
  • Freshman quarterback Kam Morton led Oakland to a 20-13 win at the Tennessee Titans Nike tournament on July 9 by throwing three touchdown passes and now competes for a rare starting role under coach Kevin Creasy. The 15-year-old transfer from Ensworth impressed at Ascension Saint Thomas Park (his performance earned him statewide notice), which could boost his chances for a starting spot in 2025.  The Daily News Journal
