  • Today at Legacy Wine & Spirits in Smyrna, a man smashed bottles with a handgun — fired shots and tried to set the store on fire — and surrendered to police after a four-hour standoff.  FOX 17
  • Coffee County Sheriff's deputy Miles White, who was off duty on July 12 in Murfreesboro, was arrested on charges of public intoxication, resisting a stop, and assault on a first responder—he is no longer employed by the department.  FOX 17

ECONOMY NEWS

  • According to projections from the Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research, Rutherford County overtook Hamilton County with an estimated 379,939 residents as of mid-2025, making it the fourth most populous county behind Shelby, Davidson and Knox. Murfreesboro, the county seat with over 165,000 residents, is evolving from a quiet college town into a thriving urban hub — its affordable living and expanding job opportunities drive the change.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Bell Road across J. Percy Priest Dam will close for inspection on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. from July 21 until Aug. 1 as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers checks safety features — drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists should use alternate routes, though the dam area stays open on July 26-27.  Murfreesboro Post
