  • Founding director Sharon DeBoer has led the Child Advocacy Center of Rutherford County for 25 years since it began in September 2000; the center has served over 21,000 children and added an office in Cannon County. A 25th anniversary celebration is set for Monday, Aug. 11 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Chamber of Commerce (3050 Medical Center Pkwy) where community members can learn more about its work.  Murfreesboro Post

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities charged LaTashia McGowan (40) and Glenn Branson (41) with second-degree murder after Noah Taylor (22) was fatally shot during a road rage incident on Interstate 24 near Waldron Road on Saturday, July 12 when his car crashed off the road.  FOX 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 4th Annual Murfreesboro Hot Chicken Festival will take place Saturday, July 26th from 4:00 p.m. — 9:00 p.m. at Historic Square in downtown Murfreesboro, where local artisans compete for awards amid vendor booths, games, and live music with free general admission.  Rutherford County Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department now operates five Blue List—approved drones and has 20 trained pilots who can launch a drone anywhere in under 12 minutes. The drones carry high-resolution cameras, thermal imaging, gas detection sensors and mapping tools while providing real-time video to first responders.  Murfreesboro Post
  • The Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department launched a new fitness and nutrition program on July 18 to boost firefighter health with a $357,637 federal grant—fuelED Nutrition Coaching and Volunteer Physical Therapy and Performance will provide meal plans, training, and recovery care. This program aims to keep firefighters strong and ready for high-stress calls.  City of Murfreesboro
  • On July 17, the Murfreesboro City Council voted 6-0 to annex the Middle Point Landfill into city limits so that city staff can enforce codes — including stormwater management, fire inspections, and property maintenance — as the residential area grows nearby. Mayor Shane McFarland said residents’ concerns prompted the decision while the move does not change the landfill’s state permit.  Rutherford County Source
