  • Gas prices in Tennessee have dropped to an average of $2.76 per gallon for regular unleaded as of July 21, with Rutherford County at $2.70, Bedford County at $2.65, and Williamson County at $3.10. Premium gas averages $3.61, which remains cheaper than in places like California & other states.  WGNS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MTSU announced it will launch two new esports concentrations in content creation and coaching to help students learn industry skills this fall. The Geosciences Department received a $2.76M software donation to improve underground exploration techniques—benefiting both undergraduate and graduate students with hands-on learning experiences.  The Daily News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Middle Tennessee Electric and Murfreesboro celebrated five years since their $302 million merger that has provided over $60 million for city projects and nonprofits through the Community Investment Trust. The deal, approved in 2020, led to MTE wiring its fifth installment of $17,290,133.38 on July 1 — funds that helped improve streetlighting, lower connection fees and upgrade service for residents.  WGNS
  • Murfreesboro City Council voted last Thursday to annex Middle Point Landfill so the city can enforce local rules on property upkeep, stormwater management and fire inspections. Growing nearby residential development prompted officials to act—ensuring the landfill meets the same standards as other industrial operations.  WGNS
  • The City of Murfreesboro will hold a Downtown Community Town Hall Meeting on Monday, Aug. 4 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 210 N. Spring St., where Mayor Shane McFarland & city leaders will answer questions on traffic, crime, homelessness, Town Creek daylighting, and the Downtown Planning Study.  City of Murfreesboro

  • The Middle Tennessee Athletic Department announced that six inductees will be honored at the Blue Raider Hall of Fame ceremony on Sept. 19 at the SRM Concrete Club inside the Stephen and Denise Smith Athletic Performance Center—just before the football game against Marshall on Sept. 20, which will bring the Hall of Fame total to 193 members.  Rutherford County Source
