- ➤ In Murfreesboro, veterans receive a wide range of care at the Alvin C. York VA Medical Center—offering mental health services, addiction recovery and specialized treatments—to support their health. Middle Tennessee State University’s Daniels Veterans and Military Family Center, Rutherford County’s Veterans Service Office (open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and the Tennessee Fisher House work together to provide benefit assistance and free lodging for families. - ➤ Educators gathered last week at the Discovery Center at Murfree Spring for its Educator Back-to-School Night—teachers rotated through six hands-on stations, earned two hours of professional development credit, and received school supplies to use in their classrooms. - ➤ Poplar Hill Elementary opens tonight in Murfreesboro with a 6 p.m. ribbon cutting—refreshments and an open house follow for families and community members. The new PreK-5 school will greet 900 students in a 146,000 square foot facility as founding principal Dr. Jason Eaton leads the campus. WGNS

- ➤ On Thursday evening (7/31/2025), the Murfreesboro City Council voted to reject a settlement with BFI Waste Systems and Republic Services over the Middle Point Landfill's air and water pollution. The Council said Republic/BFI did not prove it could control the pollution and will take the matter to court while also opposing any landfill expansion. WGNS
- ➤ Rutherford County now offers expanded options for driver’s license renewals and testing. The Tennessee Department of Safety added new in-person centers at 3906 Blaze Drive and 1035 Samsonite Blvd in Murfreesboro—self-service kiosks at local libraries and digital testing for teens are now available—while the Murfreesboro Driver License Testing Center still handles road tests.
