- ➤ Murfreesboro will host National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Oaklands Park and Smyrna will hold its event from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the police department—both events will offer free activities to connect law enforcement with local residents. WGNS
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Friday morning around 5:00 a.m., three armed suspects attempted to steal an ATM at the 7-Eleven Exxon service station on East Northfield Boulevard by breaking a window with a sledgehammer and using a steel cable to secure a pickup truck when an armed customer fired his revolver and killed one suspect—police say the other two fled while a stolen SUV linked to the incident was later recovered. - ➤ Four men were arrested on Friday by Arkansas State Police for a failed ATM theft in Murfreesboro—police say the suspects were caught after fleeing toward Texas and now await extradition to Tennessee. FOX 17

- ➤ The Rutherford Arts Alliance announced that its August Member and Friend Mixer will be held on Tuesday, August 19 at 5:30 p.m. at a venue yet to be confirmed while Artist Row will run every Saturday through October (from 8:00 a.m. to noon) to align with the Murfreesboro Farmers Market; the Alliance also set the Oaklands Mansion Fall Arts & Crafts Show for Saturday, September 6 and introduced new scholarships and free memberships for K-12 arts educators. - ➤ The Murfreesboro Traffic Department has issued a forecast for the week of August 3-9 as public schools open August 8—drivers will face reduced lanes and shifting traffic patterns on projects at Joe B Jackson Pkwy, Manchester Pike, and other city and state roads. Traffic controls and flagging operations will be in place to manage intermittent closures and lane shifts. WGNS
- ➤ Residents are encouraged to attend a town hall meeting Monday, August 4th from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church on 210 N. Spring Street where Mayor Shane McFarland, City Council members and city leaders will share updates on downtown projects, traffic, public safety, homelessness and the daylighting of Town Creek—offering residents a chance to ask questions directly. Rev. Dr. John Hinkle, Jr. will welcome the community and parking is available in front of and behind the church. WGNS

- ➤ Construction crews finished the steel frame at 2042 New Lascassas Pike and are building both floors of the 30,000-square-foot clinic to serve east Murfreesboro. MMC President Joey Peay said the facility will open in 2026—bringing new walk-in, outpatient and imaging services to the area. WGNS
