- ➤ Joseph Beard, 43, an inmate who left his trash work detail on the 8800 block of John Bragg Highway on August 4, is being sought by law enforcement—deputies are using K9 units, drones and a Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter to search for him and urge anyone who sees him to call 911. - ➤ Houston Reasonover, a Mt. Juliet accountant, captured a coyote photo while sitting in a deer stand last fall—his image was chosen for the TWRA wildlife calendar's December page. - ➤ MTSU will open its new $74.8 million Applied Engineering Building tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. at the corner of Alumni Drive and Blue Raider Drive in Murfreesboro — the 90,000 square-foot facility will house the Mechatronics Engineering program and other engineering specialties. WGNS

- ➤ Today, Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Chief Mark McCluskey spoke on the WGNS Action Line podcast with host Scott Walker about pressing challenges—including routine drug overdose calls, risks of heat exhaustion for both residents and firefighters, and safe haven measures following a nearby newborn surrender. He also explained plans for a new fire station and the urgent need to order fire trucks as delivery delays are expected to last at least two years. WGNS
- ➤ Due to abnormal summer rainfall, the Blackman Road widening project will extend into the new school year—drivers should expect delays at Manson Pike/Burnt Knob Rd. and Blackman Rd. A new traffic signal that began flashing on August 1 will be fully operational today and law enforcement will assist with traffic on August 6 and 8 as schools start their schedules. - ➤ On Monday night, August 4, 2025, Murfreesboro held its third town hall meeting at First Presbyterian Church on College + Spring Streets where Mayor Shane McFarland, Councilman Shawn Wright, and other city leaders discussed downtown residential projects, affordable housing costs, and the new Transit Center set to open in 2-3 weeks.
