The Murfreesboro Police Department held a National Night Out event at Oakland Park Tuesday night—offering games, food, fellowship, music and discussions on mental health and addiction to build stronger ties between officers and residents.
The free event united the community to take a stand against crime.

A new 5G communications tower was installed on Fortress Boulevard by a private telecommunications company.
City officials clarified that the tower is not tied to the Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center— it does not include surveillance tools.
🎓 Education
Rutherford County Schools resumed classes earlier this week with new device rules that require cell phones, laptops, tablets, and gaming devices to be put away during lessons (headphones are also not allowed) and Wednesday was a half-day while Friday will be the first full day.
School officials also urged families to apply for free or reduced lunch and announced that weapons detection systems will be installed in schools starting in September.
🏈 Sports
MTSU football will simplify uniform combinations in 2025 to improve player safety and lower costs - the team will wear gray helmets with blue jerseys at home and white jerseys on the road.
The change follows cost studies that showed high spending on multiple uniform sets and plans to use digital mapping technology to ensure a better helmet fit.
