ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A pedestrian was killed on Shelbyville Highway near Christiana in Rutherford County—both lanes were closed between Richmonds Retreat and Walnut Grove Road, affecting traffic for students at Christiana Middle and Elementary Schools—and authorities are investigating the accident.  FOX 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Aug. 6th, MTSU unveiled its new building with three floors and a $74.8 million budget for the Mechatronics Engineering program plus other Engineering Technology concentrations in front of over 200 attendees. The state-of-the-art facility will offer robotics and modern equipment to help students prepare for careers in engineering, technology, design, automation and manufacturing.  Murfreesboro.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Yesterday, the Rutherford County Schools board updated its charter school policy to comply with new state laws that limit revoking low-performing charter schools and allocate funds for school facilities—ensuring the district follows state mandates. The board also approved county use of a local facility for first responders and an evidence-based sexual risk avoidance program for grades 6-12 taught with parental permission while announcing strong evaluation scores for Director Sullivan.  Murfreesboro Post
  • Mayor McFarland and the city council held a town hall on the downtown square last week to update residents on the daylighting of Town Creek along Broad Street. Crews are 12 weeks into construction and have finished demolition, grading and erosion control — they will soon install stormwater piping, water lines and underground electrical conduit with completion targeted for the end of 2026.  Murfreesboro.com
  • Elon Musk’s Boring Company unveiled a proposed route for the Music City Loop that will run underground from near the State Capitol along Rosa Parks Boulevard, past Music City Center, and under Murfreesboro Pike to the airport using Tesla vehicles with minimal construction disruption.
