COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Monday, August 11, the Child Advocacy Center celebrated 25 years of service at the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce—local leaders, community members, and supporters joined together during the event. Since opening in 2000, the center has worked with the Child Protective Investigative Team to assist over 50,000 individuals with crucial abuse prevention and support programs.  WGNS

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An 87-year-old local who stopped to help crash victims on Highway 231 South in Christiana was struck and killed on August 8 — authorities are investigating the incident with a 37-year-old driver.  WGNS

CRIME NEWS

  • Ahmed Gouda, a 24-year-old man wanted for aggravated kidnapping, domestic assault, and a probation violation, was arrested last week at an apartment complex on Hillwood Drive in Murfreesboro and booked into the Wilson County Jail in Lebanon—he is set to appear before Judge Jimmy Lea on October 7 while a 21-year-old woman sought by Mt. Juliet Police was also detained and remains in custody.  WGNS

CULTURE NEWS

  • Country singer Jelly Roll told the Titans he lost 200 pounds and plans to lose another 50 before the team leaves in two weeks. The Tennessee native stressed that off-field connection helps on-field play — a belief he follows to boost his own journey.  The Daily News Journal

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Tennessee edged up 1 cent from last week to $2.77 per gallon for regular unleaded on Monday—still 4 cents lower than a month ago and 24 cents cheaper than a year ago. Local averages vary, with Rutherford County at $2.78 per gallon while nearby areas report similar low prices.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office earned two top awards from the Tennessee Highway Safety Office during events held in Nashville from August 6 to 8 as Patrol Sgt. Austin Watson received the highest score in the Law Enforcement Challenge for agencies of 201-500 certified officers—Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh praised his dedication to highway safety.  Rutherford County Source
  • The Board of Trustees will meet at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14 at the Municipal Airport Business Center Community Room, 1930 Memorial Blvd to review the FY26 Budget, investment details with Marquette Associates, and asset allocation. REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Northwest Broad Street will see major changes as the $150 million Keystone Project begins with three phases that include 26,000 sq. ft. of commercial space + 239 multifamily units in Phase 1, 3,000 sq. ft. of retail + 100 condos in Phase 2, and a 115-room hotel + 7,100 sq. ft. of retail in Phase 3.
