COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Demos’ Restaurant will open a new location on the first floor of MTSU’s Student Union building at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 25. The celebration will feature a ribbon-cutting with MTSU’s mascot (Lightning) and the Blue Raider Spirit Squad, and the first 100 customers will receive swag bags with a golden ticket for a free meal each day during fall.  WGNS

CULTURE NEWS

  • World Outreach Church in Murfreesboro will host Dr. Henry Cloud—an acclaimed clinical psychologist and bestselling author—at its services on Saturday, August 16 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, August 17 at 9:30 a.m., where he will share insights on applying biblical truths to daily challenges.  Rutherford County Source
  • The 7th annual Downtown on the Farm—held at Oaklands Mansion—will take place on Sept. 21 with celebrated local chefs serving a Southwestern menu from local farms and live music by The Howling Embers starting at 4:30 p.m. Organized by Wild Goose Chase Events to benefit local scholarships, the event continues a cherished tradition since 2017.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Bill Lee has proposed a plan to bar SNAP recipients from buying soda and candy—affecting more than 736,000 Tennesseans—while still allowing the purchase of hot prepared foods. Critics say the plan may further limit food options for families, and the governor must obtain a federal waiver from the USDA.  NewsChannel 5
  • Due to abnormal summer rainfall, the Blackman Road widening project has been delayed into the new school year, causing traffic delays at the Manson Pike/Burnt Knob Rd. and Blackman Rd. intersection—geometric improvements and a new signal were installed last week while law enforcement was present during school start days to assist drivers.  Murfreesboro.com
