BUSINESS NEWS

  • 121 Tennessee companies made the Inc. 5000 list with a combined $11.7 billion in revenue and a median three-year growth of 188%. Brentwood's Monogram Health led the state for a second year and Murfreesboro's Zach Taylor Real Estate ranked 159—marking strong local business growth.  The Daily News Journal
  • Barrett Firearms broke ground on a $76.4 million manufacturing campus in Rutherford County on Aug. 13— the new factory is set to open in January and will add 183 jobs while Army Col. Jason D. Bohannon demonstrated a sniper rifle during the event.  The Daily News Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Simon Springs Community School held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday to mark the completion of a year-long renovation that updated classrooms, offices, and the gymnasium on its La Vergne campus. The school, led by Principal Samantha Wagner, serves grades 1-8 with behavior intervention support.  Rutherford County Source
  • Riverdale High celebrated its campus expansion & renovation as Board of Education chairwoman Claire Maxwell explained that the improvements will provide better facilities for students. The project aims to support the school’s growing needs.  The Daily News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rick Hall was appointed by the Rutherford County Commission to fill the District 3 seat after Commissioner Michael Wrather resigned—Hall, who previously served on the commission and co-hosts the WGNS Roundtable, will serve until next year's election.  WGNS
  • Murfreesboro is set to upgrade Old Fort Parkway as the city plans to widen the road to six lanes from the Broad Street bridge to I-24 by 2030—this project will ease congestion at the busy intersection near Target, Panera Bread, and Dutch Bros.  Murfreesboro.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • Undue Medical Debt has wiped away $142 million in bills for 73,000 Tennesseans by sending surprise letters that require no application—major donations came from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott and local churches.  The Daily News Journal
  • Rutherford County seniors are at risk from the high heat as many lack fans or air conditioners—Rev. Dwight Ogleton, founder of the Cool-Aid Program, said that supplies have run out. Ogleton, who has helped seniors for over 20 years, urged residents to donate fans and AC units soon to protect the elderly during the sweltering days ahead.  WGNS
