- ➤ Pennsylvania-based Wawa held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Murfreesboro store at 5109 Veterans Parkway near Blackman Road on Aug 12; the store is one of three planned in the area and will open in summer 2026. The company plans to invest around $7.5 million per location + donated $1,000 to the American Red Cross during the event. Murfreesboro Post

- ➤ Central Magnet School in Murfreesboro was one of 179 recipients to be awarded part of a $655,000 grant from TVA and Bicentennial Volunteers, Inc.—the funding will expand its drones program by providing advanced equipment and hands-on training for students. WGNS
- ➤ Rutherford County Library System received a donated school bus from Murfreesboro City Schools with support from the Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation to become its second Bookmobile—now repainted and beginning its transformation for community service. The bus will soon travel across schools, neighborhoods, and rural areas as the library continues to work on its interior build-out. WGNS

- ➤ Tennessee enforced the Eddie Conrad Act from Jan. 1, 2024, which increased penalties for teen drivers who used cellphones while driving, with two offenses causing a license suspension lasting six months to one year—this law was passed after Eddie Conrad was killed in 2020 to curb fatal accidents. - ➤ Murfreesboro City Council renewed its master services agreement with True North Geographic Technologies on Aug. 14 to digitize the permit, land and license system—making payments easier and speeding up building plan reviews. The project will take 26 weeks to complete. Murfreesboro Post
- ➤ The city of Murfreesboro updated its webpage with information on the Middle Point Landfill, where residents can report odor complaints and review past legal actions. - ➤ The Rutherford County Commission voted 14-6 on Aug. 14 to appoint former Commissioner Rick Hall to fill the District 3 seat after Michael Wrather retired for personal and family reasons—Hall, who previously served District 12 from 2006 to 2010, will serve until August 2026 when voters elect 21 commissioners for four-year terms.
