  • Today, Barret Firearms is breaking ground on its new headquarters in Murfreesboro—set to serve as its global firearms manufacturing hub and create 183 new jobs in Rutherford County.  Murfreesboro.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Shree Swaminarayan Temple and Cultural Center opened weeks ago at 4925 Shelbyville Pike as a $13M, 36,000-square-foot landmark set on nearly 16 acres in Murfreesboro. The temple hosts daily prayers, rituals, and educational programs — welcoming regional gatherings and promoting the Swaminarayan faith.  WGNS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MTSU recently opened its new $74.8 million, 90,000-square-foot Applied Engineering Building—where students learn hands-on skills in mechatronics and robotics. The three-story building unites labs and classrooms to help boost the region’s economy.  The Daily News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Teen drivers with a learner permit in Tennessee must drive with a licensed adult (aged 21 or older) in the front seat and are not allowed to drive alone or between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. They must hold the permit for 180 days and complete supervised driving hours before moving to an intermediate restricted license.  The Daily News Journal
  • Tennessee’s free hunting day will begin on Aug. 23 as the squirrel season opens, allowing hunters to harvest up to 10 squirrels a day until March 15—hunters born on or after Jan. 1, 1969 must complete a hunter education course. An archery-only deer hunt will run from Aug. 22-24 on private lands and select wildlife management areas.  The Daily News Journal
