COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Redstone Federal Credit Union has named five 2025 Community Champions from North Alabama and Middle Tennessee—each recognized for work ranging from mental health support to search-and-rescue training. The honorees will be celebrated at an awards ceremony at Redstone’s Twickenham branch where they will receive a video tribute and a special award.  Murfreesboro.com

CRIME NEWS

  • Kyle Chrisley, son of Todd Chrisley, and his wife Ashleigh have filed a federal lawsuit against Rutherford County and two sheriff’s deputies after a September 2024 incident at their home, alleging false arrest, excessive force, and constitutional violations while seeking $1.7 million in damages.  FOX 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • U.S. News & World Report released rankings for Tennessee’s top 10 public high schools for 2025-26, showing a mix of traditional, magnet, and charter schools all ranked in the top 450 nationwide. Central Magnet High School in Murfreesboro appears among the highly ranked schools, providing key data for families.  The Daily News Journal
  • Rutherford County Schools announced that Central Magnet School was named a 2024-2025 National Beta School of Merit—earned by including all eligible grades in its Beta club to promote academic excellence.  Rutherford County Source
  • City Auto Mitsubishi will donate a 2024 Outlander Plug-in Hybrid and a 2024 Eclipse Cross to Rutherford County Schools for teen driver training at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27th at its Bridge Avenue location + the vehicles will be used in a blended classroom and driving program to help students learn safe driving.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City of Murfreesboro launched a 'Better Way to Give' campaign that uses new signage downtown to urge residents to donate to local charities instead of giving money to panhandlers, and the signs began appearing Aug.18. The campaign directs help to agencies like the Journey Home & Murfreesboro Cold Patrol to support the unhoused and keep streets safe.  City of Murfreesboro
