COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rutherford County has five events planned this weekend—Fearsome Folklore at Hop Springs on Saturday from 12pm to 2pm, Whiskey & Wildflowers and a Cat Adoption Event in Murfreesboro on Saturday from 12pm to 2pm, and Music City Brewers Fest in Nashville on Saturday from 4pm to 9pm—while the Howl at the Moon 5K runs today at 8pm at Veterans Memorial Park.  Rutherford County Source

CRIME NEWS

  • On August 9, police arrested Steven Bennett, 51, on Nolensville Pike after he led a wild chase by speeding at 70 mph in a 40 zone as spike strips deflated his tires—he is wanted on felony theft charges from Rutherford County.  WGNS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Murfreesboro City Schools announced that Discovery School was named a National Beta School of Merit for the 2024–2025 cycle as its students competed at the National Beta Convention and earned national titles in design, poetry, and drawing. The honor highlights the school’s strong focus on academic excellence and leadership.  Rutherford County Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Murfreesboro City Council voted yesterday to approve $6.4 million for Phase II of Medical Center Parkway widening using the city’s annual contracts. The project will add extra thru and turn lanes from Thompson Lane to the Fountains at Gateway—improving traffic flow and is set to start in September with completion by early 2027.  City of Murfreesboro

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Tennessee Sports Writers Association and USA TODAY Sports Network released preseason high school football rankings for the upcoming TSSAA season — teams earned points from votes by many statewide outlets. Rankings name South Pittsburg in Division I and Oakland in Division 6A as top choices among schools.  The Daily News Journal
