- ➤ The Journey Home will move from its 6500 square foot location to a new 20000 square foot facility in September, expanding services such as a Wellness Clinic plus interim family housing for families in Rutherford County. - ➤ A Murfreesboro icon, Demos’ Steak and Spaghetti House will open a new location in the Middle Tennessee State University Student Union Building on Monday, August 25th at 9:30 a.m. Run by MTSU alumni Peter and Kristin Demos, the restaurant will serve classic dishes and offer the first 100 students swag bags along with a special free-meal ticket for one lucky Blue Raider. - ➤ The Better Business Bureau warns that scammers are targeting elderly homeowners in Middle Tennessee by offering unsolicited driveway services—one case saw a couple charged $64,000 after workers expanded a small job into full driveway paving without permission. NewsChannel 5

- ➤ Rutherford County Schools currently has at least nine vacant bus routes two weeks after school started, and Chief Operations Officer Trey Lee said four routes in Rockvale have no dedicated driver while others are covered by extra drivers. With the current bus driver contract expiring on Aug 29, the district may hire a new contractor or buy a new bus + try to hire its own driver. Murfreesboro Post
- ➤ Last weekend, more than 160 first responders, students and staff took part in active shooter training at Middle Tennessee State University amid concerns following school threats nationwide — the exercise prepared participants for worst-case scenarios. - ➤ The Murfreesboro City Council approved $6.4M for Phase II of the Medical Center Parkway widening on August 21 and plans to start construction in September using the City’s annual contracts. Rollins Excavating & other contractors will add a thru lane, turn lanes and update traffic signals from Thompson Lane to the Fountains at Gateway, with work expected to finish by early 2027.
