COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Centennial Park Conservancy announced the Kidsville Family Festival will return to Centennial Park on Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Musicians Corner Amphitheater — the free event will offer live music, mascot meet-and-greets, crafts, and food trucks for the whole family.  Rutherford County Source

CULTURE NEWS

  • Roots Rendezvous, presented by Uncle Dave Macon Days, will run from September 19th to 21st at Hop Springs on John Bragg Highway and will feature the 100-mile Hammer Down for Habitat Poker Run to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity while offering live music, crafts, and classic vehicle displays. Festival Director Gloria Christy said the event will unite community members around bluegrass, clogging, and local artisan markets.  WGNS
  • On 8/23, Club President Aurelia Holden said the 169-year-old Baskette-Woman’s Club home at East College and North Academy Streets is undergoing a multi-phase restoration that includes full rewiring and other major repairs. The club received a $5,000 matching grant to fix historic windows—steps that point to a planned move back into the building by Christmas or early next year.  WGNS

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A WalletHub report showed that the metro area including Murfreesboro dropped auto loan delinquency rates by 11.12% between Q1 and Q2, meaning more drivers kept up with their car payments—bolstering local financial stability. The findings indicate that improved economic conditions are helping area residents avoid late fees and credit problems.  WGNS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Murfreesboro’s Discovery School earned the 2024–2025 National Beta School of Merit award after its students won national titles at the Beta Convention—taking first in poetry, second in banner design and ranking in the top ten for drawing and book battle. Principal Dr. Caitlin Bullard said the wins and the school's new Tennessee STEAM designation show the school's strong academic programs.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Medical Center Parkway widening project Phase 2 will start in September—adding one lane each way and new turning lanes from Thompson Lane to the Fountains of Gateway while upgrading traffic lights. This $6.4 million project, following completed Phase 1—will be done by early 2026.  Murfreesboro.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Friday night, local football teams Blackman, MTCS, PCA, Siegel and Stewarts Creek recorded season-opening wins as key players led their teams with strong plays. Blackman quarterback Jaevion Elliott threw and ran for a touchdown in a 24-6 win while Stewarts Creek tailback Jamarcus Brown rushed for 258 yards and four scores—other teams also showed good effort in tight games.  Murfreesboro Post
