CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On August 28 at 11:55 p.m., officers in La Vergne responded to an armed robbery attempt at 5001 Murfreesboro Road, detained a suspect after recovering two firearms and charging him with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault—no one was injured. Rutherford County Source
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Discovery Center at Murfree Spring opens an interactive exhibit inspired by Pixar’s Inside Out on Sept. 13th, inviting families to explore emotions through hands-on and digital activities—offering creative stations like Emotion Mirrors and Emotions Theater. The exhibit will run through Jan. 4th at 502 SE Broad Street, giving visitors a fun way to learn about feelings. Rutherford County Source

- ➤ Country star Lauren Watkins performed at Party in the Grove on August 30—entertaining hundreds with live country music and a collective toast before the football game. - ➤ Rutherford County Schools reached Level 5 status for student performance in the 2024-2025 school year as 32 of 48 eligible schools earned the highest ranking for the sixth consecutive year—Director Dr. Jimmy Sullivan credited focused teaching and strong parent partnerships for this success. - ➤ MCS director Dr. Trey Duke was named President of the Child Advocacy Center Board in January and will serve a two-year term. He said his appointment builds on his work in education to help protect more than 1,300 children each year — a vital support for local families. Rutherford County Source
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rutherford County jail has exceeded its capacity since August 25th, holding 1,008 inmates when it was built for 500 and a planned capacity of 977, which has led to rising violence with 11 deputy assaults and 55 inmate fights recorded this year. County leaders are reviewing expansion options—costly challenges may grow if overcrowding continues and jeopardizes jail certification. FOX 17
