  • Harvest Days—featuring live music, crafts and blacksmithing demonstrations—is scheduled for October 25 at Cannonsburgh Village from 10am to 4pm with free admission. The event will also include a car club cruise-in and art for sale from the Murfreesboro Art League.  City of Murfreesboro

  • The Cripple Creek Cloggers and the Slim Chance Band from Rutherford County are representing Middle Tennessee at an international folk festival in Leiria, Portugal—4,100 miles from home—performing traditional Appalachian square dance and engaging in cultural exchange with groups from Ecuador, Slovakia and local Portuguese regions.  WGNS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students came back to school after the long Labor Day weekend on Tuesday and passed through new OpenGate weapons detection systems at all 51 county schools—these scanners quickly check bags and let small items pass. School officials say the system is part of a safety plan that makes Rutherford County Schools the first in the state to use it countywide.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Rutherford County Adult Detention Center is severely overcrowded—housing 1,008 inmates in a facility designed for just over 800—and violence has risen with 11 deputy assaults and 55 inmate fights reported this year. County officials are exploring a jail expansion to prevent loss of state certification and shield taxpayers from extra legal costs.  FOX 17

  • MTSU lost 34-14 to Austin Peay on August 30th at Floyd Stadium, marking its first FCS loss in over a decade. The team struggled with key plays and missed critical downs—while the defensive line showed strong effort.  MTSU Sidelines
