- ➤ Mateo the donkey got loose on Aug. 31 at 7:05 a.m. on Saint Andrews Drive in Murfreesboro and his owner, Heather Bowman, jogged to corral him without anyone getting hurt—she said she was still sore from the chase. The couple will add another donkey friend on Sept. 5 as they continue caring for their small farm. The Daily News Journal
- ➤ Smyrna Depot Days returns on September 27th from 10 AM—4 PM at the Historic Train Depot. The annual event features live music, food, family activities and local vendor booths to support community fundraising. Rutherford County Source
- ➤ The 2nd Annual Pecan Festival will take place Saturday, September 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hop Springs at 6790 John Bragg Hwy in Murfreesboro—this free admission event offers free goodie bags to the first 200 adults, a circus with shows at 10:30, 12:30 and 2:30, live music, a petting zoo and more activities, while parking costs $5 in cash. - ➤ Deputy Chief Britt Reed retired Tuesday after a 30-year career that improved domestic violence response at the sheriff’s office—he introduced lethality assessments after two tragic losses to better protect victims. WGNS
- ➤ Tennessee secured the top spot for election integrity in the Heritage Foundation’s scorecard for the fourth consecutive year — a historic milestone credited to strict voter ID laws and the hard work of county officials. Secretary of State Tre Hargett and other local leaders celebrated the result, saying that every vote was carefully protected. WGNS
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Murfreesboro will host the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network First Responder Suicide Prevention Conference titled 'Answering the Call' at Williamson Family Farms on 3250 Wilkinson Pike on October 29-30—this event will work to lower the high suicide rates among first responders by offering key mental health support and early booking discounts for lodging. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Cynosport Dog Agility World Games will be held at Tennessee Miller Coliseum from October 15-19 and will draw hundreds of dog competitors from across the country & internationally to compete for championship titles and prize money. Spectators can also watch a Fast CAT event on October 18 and 19 as the free event starts daily at 9 a.m. Murfreesboro.com
