CULTURE NEWS

  • The 7th annual Downtown on the Farm will return at Oaklands Mansion in Murfreesboro on Sept. 21, with cocktails at 4:30 p.m. and dinner at 5:30 p.m. The farm-to-table dinner will feature local chefs and Southwestern flavors while proceeds fund scholarships for Rutherford County students — upholding a cherished local tradition.  Murfreesboro.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Trey Duke, Murfreesboro City Schools Director, was named President of the Child Advocacy Center Board in January and will serve a two-year term—he has served on the board since March 2021 and brings over 20 years of experience in education.   • MTSU’s National Pan-Hellenic Council expanded its campus presence by securing its own office suite on the third floor of the Student Union after using a single shared room last year—this new space, which is open for study and meetings, marks a milestone that followed a record Courtyard Wednesday event on September 4, and the council plans future career fairs and a scholarship program to empower students further. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mental Health Cooperative held its ribbon cutting on Tuesday, August 12th at 11am at its new facility at 1632 Gateway Boulevard in Murfreesboro+ the center opened to offer expanded services like psychiatry, psychotherapy, substance use and emergency psychiatric care for all ages, especially for those on TennCare or without insurance.  Murfreesboro.com

  • Bud Adams moved the Oilers to Tennessee in 1997 after not getting a new stadium deal in Houston. The team played in Memphis and at Vanderbilt Stadium until its new home opened in 1999 when it became the Titans.  The Daily News Journal
