CRIME NEWS

  • Leaders at the Better Business Bureau say that scammers are targeting job seekers—using fake work-from-home offers that promise high pay and flexible schedules—to steal money and personal information, and they warn not to share details or pay fees when no interview is required.  NewsChannel 5

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA said gas prices in Tennessee fell six cents last week with the average now at $2.78 per gallon; the rate remains four cents higher than one month and one year ago because lower demand and abundant oil supply are expected to ease costs in the near future.  Rutherford County Source

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • TDOT is planning to add 26 miles of optional lanes—known as choice lanes—to I-24 from Nashville to Murfreesboro to ease congestion and improve travel times, and the department will host public meetings for community feedback on Sept. 30, Oct. 1, and Oct. 2.  FOX 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • A review published today by experts from Vanderbilt and Pittsburgh shows that nitazenes, ultra-potent synthetic opioids, are emerging in the illicit drug market and have been linked to 92 fatal overdoses in Tennessee from 2019 to 2023. Clinicians warn that reversing nitazene overdoses may require higher or repeated doses of naloxone & expanded harm-reduction measures to help at-risk patients.  WGNS

  • Redshirt senior Juwon Gaston was named CUSA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after he recorded his first two career interceptions during the win over Nevada—making him the first Blue Raider to get the honor this season and ranking him 1st in CUSA and 6th nationally with .67 interceptions per game.  Rutherford County Source
  • Senior safety Juwon Gaston was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week after recording his first two career interceptions in MTSU's win over Nevada last Saturday. He got his first pick in the end zone to stop a scoring drive and became the first Blue Raider to have multiple interceptions in a game since 2022.  Murfreesboro Post
  • Middle Tennessee women's soccer will launch Conference USA play this weekend with a home game against Jacksonville State on Sunday. The Blue Raiders hold a 5-3-2 record and are riding a three-game win streak—Coach Aston Rhoden said the team will focus on playing well ahead of tougher matchups.  MTSU Sidelines
