- ➤ Priscilla Presley will host a book release event at Franklin Theatre on Thursday, September 24th at 7 p.m.—Parnassus Books presents an evening conversation with Ann Powers about her new book Softly, as I Leave You while tickets cost $44 and include one seat and a signed copy. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ MTSU fired assistant dean Laura Sosh-Lightsy last week after her callous social media remarks led to a surge in complaints, as University Provost Mark Byrnes explained. He said officials are considering adding online conduct training for new faculty—hoping to prevent similar issues in the future. MTSU Sidelines
- ➤ The Tennessee Higher Education Commission announced that over 40 Tennessee colleges and universities are waiving application fees in September during College Application and Exploration Month to help students start their college applications. Students from elementary through high school should use the free toolkit and guidelines for the TN Promise scholarship (available until November 3) to learn more. Rutherford County Source
- ➤ The City Schools Foundation will host the Serve it Up Pickleball Tournament beginning Friday, October 24, with round-robin play and a double-elimination bracket on Saturday, October 25—matches will be held at Adam’s Tennis Complex with indoor backup if weather interferes. Registration is open for the first 45 adult teams at $60 per team and sponsorships will support Murfreesboro City Schools. WGNS

- ➤ Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr announced he is running for reelection in 2026 to keep working on solid waste improvements — expanding recovery courts and building a forensic center. He plans to hire a recycling expert and continues to oppose landfill expansion. The Daily News Journal
- ➤ TDOT is exploring choice lanes to ease traffic on I-24 between Nashville and Murfreesboro—its 26-mile plan may cost $5 billion and use a public-private partnership while officials hold meetings to get community input. FOX 17

- ➤ Before today, in Tuesday’s district match, Green Hill High setter Chloe Carter earned her 1,000th assist on a gold ball as her team swept Mt. Juliet 3—0, improving their record to 19—3. - ➤ Titans coach Brian Callahan said he feels positive about the unit’s depth even though the line allowed the most sacks so far and lost starting tackle JC Latham to injury.
