CULTURE NEWS

  • MTSU hosted its 2025 NPHC step show on Sept. 19 at the Student Union Ballroom where Divine 9 organizations performed original routines that honored deep cultural traditions—MTSU President Sidney A. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tennessee State Park System said it expanded colorblind viewfinders to 12 parks—ensuring all visitors can see fall’s bright colors. Middle Tennessee parks such as Tims Ford, Edgar Evins, Standing Stone, Savage Gulf, and South Cumberland will offer scenic hikes as leaves begin changing early October and peak from late October through early November.  The Daily News Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Murfreesboro Police Department received city council approval to buy more body cameras, an auto-tagging system, 34 license plate readers, and 26 park surveillance cameras to support its growing force—Police Chief Michael Bowen explained the new technology will improve evidence management.  FOX 17
  • Eligible charitable organizations are invited to submit FY26-27 grant applications to the Murfreesboro Community Investment Trust's Committee on Contributions—applications run online from October 1 through October 31 with awards announced by May 30.  City of Murfreesboro

SPORTS NEWS

  • On September 20th, the Blue Raiders lost their 28—21 lead at Floyd Stadium as Marshall scored three unanswered touchdowns in the fourth quarter and dropped the team to 1—3. Nicholas Vattiato passed for 299 yards and two touchdowns but struggled when penalties and a weak running game hurt the team—making it a tough night for MTSU.  Rutherford County Source
  • Residents in Murfreesboro can vote for the TSSAA boys athlete of the week for Sept. 15—20 from nominees including Blackman's Braxton Head, Micah Nance, Eagleville's Jonathan Jordan, MTCS' Alie Bangura, Oakland's Joel Wyatt, PCA's Jacob Meier, Riverdale's Jacob Vaughn, Rockvale's RC Chiha, Siegel's Braelyn Albea, Smyrna's Sucory Weathers and Stewarts Creek's Gabriel Gomer and Austin Felker.   • On Sept. 20, Davvn, a pop rock band from Nashville, headlined MTSU’s Party at the Grove tailgating event before the homecoming game and welcomed special guest Jack the Underdog for one extra song— energizing the Blue Raiders crowd with Y2K-inspired hits.   • Murfreesboro residents can vote for the top TSSAA girls soccer player as midseason stats compiled through Sept. 14 were used to select nominees including Isabel Kinsman, Kristin Dean, Avry Wilson, Tori Merriman, Ella Marlow, Sydney Johnson and Lillian Opie—voting closes at noon on Sept. 26.  The Daily News Journal
