EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Cal Mitchell visited MTSU to share his journey from ensemble member to lead role during a campus Q&A event on Sept. 25. He advised students to be ready for change and find balance in life—enjoying music, movies, and new foods in their free time. MTSU Sidelines
- ➤ Middle Tennessee State University held its record-breaking Big Career Fair on Sept. 25 at the Campus Recreation Center—2,082 students and alumni met over 220 employers offering paid internships and jobs starting at $45,000—while Career Development Center staff said the event boosted students' confidence and sharpened their interview skills. - ➤ Today, state lawmakers listened as education leaders from Libertas School of Memphis explained that state tests require students to score between the 70th and 90th percentile—prompting discussions on reducing redundant local assessments and adjusting school letter grades. Lawmakers also talked about using ACT scores in some cases and will meet again next month to review testing and accountability strategies. Murfreesboro Post

- ➤ K9 Appie died Sunday night at home with family and team members by his side; he served Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office as a dual purpose K9—earning awards for his work and retiring in 2024. - ➤ Daphne David is the new CEO at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford and outlined goals to improve patient care (the hospital is located off Medical Center Parkway in Murfreesboro). The Daily News Journal

- ➤ It is Week 7 of high school football in Tennessee as TSSAA has set games in ten counties including Rutherford and Davidson. Most games are scheduled for Oct 3 (unless otherwise noted) and live scores will be available for fans to follow. Rutherford County Source
- ➤ On Sept 27, MTSU running back Jekail Middlebrook rushed for 109 yards and scored two touchdowns in a 24—16 loss to Kennesaw State, marking his best performance this season. The team will lean on his play as it seeks to boost its offense in upcoming games. MTSU Sidelines
