- ➤ In today's Rutherford Roundup, Senator Jeff Yarbrough challenged the legality of National Guard deployments sparking debate with Attorney General Jonathan Scrametti—Murfreesboro City Schools reported record math scores and low absenteeism, a new park-and-ride facility will boost transit options by 2026, Stones River National Battlefield generated $23.8 million in local economic impact, Rutherford County honored retired K-9 Appie, and the St. Clair Street Senior Center hosts its annual health expo today. - ➤ The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office is starting its Cold Patrol initiative to collect donations that will help keep unhoused residents warm as colder weather approaches. Donations including sleeping bags, gloves, blankets, and hand warmers may be dropped off at the main lobby at 940 New Salem Highway between 8 am - 4 pm Monday through Thursday in October. - ➤ In-N-Out Burger bought a 154,000 square foot building in Wilson County for $30.15M on October 1 and plans to use it as a regional hub for future restaurants. The chain is set to expand in Middle Tennessee with new locations in Murfreesboro, Lebanon, Antioch, Franklin, Hendersonville and Madison—showing its deep commitment to the area. - ➤ Two Tennessee universities ranked in the top 20 on a national free speech survey; Vanderbilt improved dramatically from 140th to 7th by adopting new policies — while Middle Tennessee State University debuted at 15 through policy updates and on-campus initiatives. - ➤ Murfreesboro City Schools Director Dr. Trey Duke said during the State of the Schools event on Sept.30 that the district’s 9,000 diverse students have seen gains in reading, math and science scores and improvements in English learner progress and support services—strong teaching and smart use of tax dollars drive these changes. - ➤ A $1.4 million investment was approved for safety improvements at the intersection of Murfreesboro Pike and Thompson Lane as part of the Choose How You Move transit plan to boost bus ridership and reduce traffic. Transit Alliance CEO Jessica Dauphin said the upgrades will help ensure pedestrians, bikers, and students feel secure when using the area. FOX 17
- ➤ The Murfreesboro Committee on Contributions invites eligible charitable groups to submit FY26-27 grant applications from October 1 through October 31 at 4:30 p.m.—applications averaging $10,000 to $25,000 will fund projects scheduled for July 1 to June 30. - ➤ MTSU club hockey swept Alabama club hockey in two games at Ford Ice Center in Antioch this past weekend. Top line players Matthew Siciliano, Tommy Chunchukov and Linden Palmer tallied 20 points in the series and the Blue Raiders will next face Lynn University on Oct. 10-11 at the same venue. - ➤ Central Magnet and PCA girls secured spots in the TSSAA state tournament after winning regional events at Golden Eagle Golf Club in Cookeville and Franklin Bridge Golf Club respectively.
