COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Michael Ussery, long-serving president and COO of National HealthCare Corporation, will retire Dec. 31 after a 45-year career—he has also served as a board member for local healthcare organizations. La Vergne collected over 18,000 pounds of electronic waste on Sept. 26, Beesley Animal Foundation will deliver Kind News magazine to 172 classrooms, Murfreesboro Municipal Airport will host its STEAM Fest on Oct. 18, and city property taxes are due Feb. 28.  Murfreesboro Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the Bragg Building, MTSU students have been taking part in a 24-hour animation contest since 6 p.m. Friday and will continue until 6 p.m. today—each team racing to create a 30-second film from a surprise theme.  WGNS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Rutherford County District Attorney’s Office aired a radio show hosted by retired ADA J. Paul Newman where DA General Jennings Jones updated listeners on recent trials, convictions, and upcoming court decisions. Assistant ADA Trevor Lynch guided law students through Tennessee laws and courtroom practices while retired DA Bill Whitesell shared insights from his long career.  WGNS

HEALTH NEWS

  • The YMCA of Middle Tennessee celebrated 25 years of its After Breast Cancer program at a recent reunion that brought over 100 survivors and families to kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month and offered a free 16-week course—designed by survivors and having served more than 6,000 participants—to help build strength and plan healthy lives.  Rutherford County Source
  • Rutherford County Health Department will offer free flu shots on October 21 to anyone six months or older with no appointment needed. Director Sydney Butterfield said the shots are part of Tennessee’s 2025 Fight Flu campaign — a key step to help protect vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, infants, and older adults.  WGNS
  • Dr. Mark Kestner at 1435 NW Broad St. in Murfreesboro advises local residents to boost their immune system by drinking more water, taking vitamins, and getting enough sleep while also cleaning up their diet and losing weight.   • TDK Companies broke ground on Vintage 1959 off Medical Center Parkway today — the new $84M mixed-use project will feature 232 upscale residences, three office suites, and over 17,000 square feet of retail space along with resort-style amenities and a clubhouse; pre-leasing will begin in winter as Pinnacle Financial Partners leads financing with a $49M construction loan.  WGNS
