- ➤ The MidSouth TruckTober Festival will be held on Saturday, October 18th at 8 a.m. at Hop Springs in Murfreesboro to raise funds for The Love Anchors Fund — a charity started by breast cancer survivor Anita Cochran. Rutherford County Source
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ MTSU Public Health Program hosted the Tennessee Public Health Association Conference at Embassy Suites in Murfreesboro, where more than 700 attendees from across the state gathered. Faculty, alumni and students shared research — and associate professor Kahler Stone was named the 2025 Academician of the Year with Tennessee Health Department Commissioner John Dunn present. WGNS

- ➤ Mayor Shane McFarland said today that the city is acquiring parcels along NW Broad Street from Front Street to where Lytle Creek flows beneath Broad to support future development for Cannonsburgh Village and the nearby Greenway Trailhead. Captain D's remains open while the Yard Sale Store moves—Town Creek is being daylighted for a family-friendly walking path and the Keystone Project has City Council approval with final agreements expected by March 1. - ➤ Nine inmates from the county detention center and six deputies completed an OSHA certification course on safe tow motor and forklift operations—taught by Maintenance Lt. Devin Storie and Cpl. Andy Pugh—to gain skills that may help them secure jobs after release. WGNS
- ➤ Rutherford County is checking the old Bank of America building on East Main Street — behind Shacklett’s Photography — for new office space for groups like the Election Commission and County Codes as the county grows. Mayor Joe Carr said the county expects to close an agreement by year's end and plans to repurpose the Goldstein building for a museum extension. WGNS

- ➤ Joakim Kemell delivered a vicious hit on Andrei Svechnikov and scored the overtime winner in a 3-2 preseason victory over the Carolina Hurricanes at Bridgestone Arena on Oct. 4—he is expected to make the Predators' 23-man opening night roster. The Daily News Journal
